SITE CONTROL �ASURES : ` w <br /> •In order to prevent the spread of contamination and control the flow of <br /> personnel, vehicles, and materials into and out of work areas, site <br /> control measures shall be established and described in the SSHP. The <br /> SSHP shall describe work zone designations and their modifications, and <br /> procedures to limit the spread of contamination. <br /> The SSHP shall include procedures for the implementation and enforcement <br /> of safety and health rules for all persons on the site, including <br /> employers, employees, outside Contractors, government representatives, <br /> and visitors. <br /> 1 . Work Zones : <br /> Delineation of work zone boundaries shall be based on the contamination <br /> characterization data. As work progresses and field conditions are <br /> monitored, work zone boundaries may be modified with approval of the <br /> Certified Industrial Hygienist. Work zones shall be clearly identified <br /> and marked in the field (using tape, signs) . Work zones shall consist of <br /> the following: <br /> a. Limits of containment: <br /> The containment area (Exclusion Zone) is the area where <br /> hazardous contamination is either known or expected to <br /> occur and the greatest potential for exposure exists. <br /> Entry into this area shall be controlled and exit may <br /> only be made through the decontamination areas. <br /> b. Contamination Reduction Zone (CRZ) : The CRZ is the transition <br /> area between the Exclusion Zone and the Support Zone. The <br /> personnel and equipment decontamination areas shall be <br /> separate and unique areas located in the CRZ. <br /> C. Support Zone (SZ) : The Support Zone is defined as areas <br /> of the site, other than exclusion zones and contamination <br /> reduction zones, where workers do not have the potential to <br /> be exposed to hazardous substances or dangerous conditions <br /> resulting from hazardous waste operations. The Support Zone <br /> shall be secured against active or passive contamination. <br /> Site offices, parking areas, and other support facilities <br /> shall be located in the Support Zone. <br /> 2 . Communication : <br /> An employee alarm system that has adequate means of on and off <br /> site communication shall be provided and installed in accordance with <br /> CFR 29 Part 1910 Section 165. The means of communication shall be able <br /> to be perceived above ambient noise or light levels by employees in the <br /> affected portions of the workplace.
