SACRAMENTO
1. 0 INTRODUCTION
This report describes the methods, procedures and findings
of an interim remediation/pilot study at the Pacific Bell
switching station facility, located at 7644 Ashley Lane in
Stockton, California (hereinafter referred to as the site) . The
site location is shown in Figure 1.
This Interim Remediation/Pilot Study Report has been
prepared by Versar Inc. (Versar) on behalf of Pacific Bell as
part of the remediation of diesel--impacted soils at the site.
The interim remediation/pilot study was approved by the San
Joaquin County Public Health Services - Environmental Health
Division (SJEHD) , as an addendum to the original remediation
workplan (Versar, 1990) .
1. 1 Backc
iroundZSite History
The Pacific Bell Ashley Road facility is located in San
Joaquin County, northeast of the city of Stockton, California.
Figure 2 presents the layout of the site. The property was
equipped with a 1, 000-gallon underground storage tank (UST) which
was used to store diesel to operate the facility's emergency
generator. As part of an upgrade of the facility, Pacific Bell
contracted LBME Corporation (LBME) to remove and replace the UST.
In April 1988, petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel were detected
through the analysis of two soil samples collected during the
removal of the UST. An Unauthorized Release/Contaminated Site
Report was submitted to SJEHD by LBME on behalf of Pacific Bell .
Based upon a letter work plan prepared by LBME, a site
investigation was conducted on October 31 and November 1, 1988.
At the request of Pacific Bell, the investigation, which included
the drilling of four boreholes, was supervised by Versar. The
results of the investigation were documented, by Versar in a
report entitled "Site Assessment of the Pacific Bell Ashley Road
[ Stockton Facility (UE-132) " (Versar, 1989) .
