Before installation, the tank shall be tested for tightness at the insmiiation site in accordance
with the manufacnlrer's written.guidelines. If there are no guidelines, the primary and
secondary containment shall be tested for tightness with air pressure between 3 and 5 pounds
per-square inch. In lieu of a pressure rest, a vacuum expressed in inches of mercury in the
interstitial space of the w-condwy containment, is acceptable. The pressure (or vacuum in
the interstitial space) shall be tnainrained for a minimum of 30 minutes.
b. All new primary pipin,g and secondary containment systems shall be tested for tightness aper
nstallation in accordance with manufacturer's guidelines. Primary pressurized piping shall
be hydrostatically tested at 150 petcear of design operating pressure or pneumatically at 110
Percent of design operating pressure. If the calculated rest pressure for pressurized piping is
less than 40 psi, 40 psi shall be used as the test pressure. The pressure shall be Tainiained
for a minimus of 30 minutes and all joints shall be soap rested. If there are no
manufacturer's guidelines, secondary containment systems shall be tested using an applicable
method specified in an industry code or engineering standard.
C. All tires other tltatr pressure piping shall be pressure tested at not less than 3 p.s.i. and not
more than 5 p.s.i_ for a minimum of 30 minutes and soap tested white under pressure.
d. Containment sumps shall pass a 24 hour hydrostatic leak test.
e. The spill container shall be shown to be capable of draining liquid 'back into the fuel tanks.
f. The monitoring system shall pass a functional test The functional test shall consist of the
activation of the alarm via all monitoring probeslsensors.
Final inspection and approval to operate will be granted after the above requirements are
satisfied and a hard copy of the tank integrity test (as required by Section 2635 (a) (5)] is
submitted to the inspector at the site.
If you aced further assistance, or wish to schedule an appointment to discuss the plan review
or field inspection, piease contact our Underground Storage Tank Staff at (209) =68-342''.
z
