<br />utilized, Addenda to Specifications, Asphalt Paving Specifications, 
<br />and Equipment Schedule ore hereby mode a port of these Specifications 
<br />to the some extent as if bound herein. The General Conditions, 
<br />including Modifications and Special Conditions herein, shall opply, to 
<br />both Prime and Sub -Contractors and all tradesmen. 
<br />I -I 
<br />DRAWING 
<br />Owner will furnish free of charge 6 sets of working drawings 
<br />and specifications. 
<br />1-2 PLANS & SPECIFICATIONS 
<br />General Contractor will check all plans and specifications for 
<br />compliance with local and state building codes and for errors 
<br />and omissions. General Contractor will be responsible for 
<br />notifying Owner's Representative of any discrepancies and when 
<br />required, adjust bid price accordingly. 
<br />I-3 IAYING OUT W -BE 
<br />General Contractor will immediately upon entering project site 
<br />for purpose of beginning work, locate all general reference 
<br />points, properly corners, etc., and lake such action as is 
<br />necessary to prevent their destruction lay out his own work 
<br />and be responsible for all lines, elevations and measurements 
<br />of buildings, groding, paving, utilities and other work 
<br />executed by him under the Contract. No footings or foundations 
<br />shall be poured prior to field check by Owner's Representative. 
<br />Any property carriers destroyed, removed or relocated shall be 
<br />replaced by Registered Land Surveyor at Contractor's expense. 
<br />General Contractor to meet oil Shell, Slate and Federal Safety 
<br />requirements. (Refer to section on Safety 
<br />Guidelines/Requirements.) 
<br />1-7-4-b. Contractor shall periodically check all machinery and 
<br />equipment and insure. it is in good operating condition. 
<br />All Contractor's; Fabricator's equipment is subject to 
<br />inspection by Company representative, equipment which the 
<br />Company representative considers hazardous to personnel or 
<br />facilities must be shut down and/or removed from the 
<br />premises immediately. Equipment shall be kept at least 
<br />(25) foot radius away from any operational gasoline 
<br />dispensing area. 
<br />1-7-4-c. Contractor's and Fabricator's personnel are directly 
<br />responsible for "good housekeeping" awareness and assign 
<br />someone daily for removing clutter from the work areas. 
<br />Site shall be left in a clean, neat, orderly, and safe 
<br />condition upon completion of each work day. 
<br />1-7-4-d. Instruct employees in safe lifting practices which may 
<br />prevent many injuries. 
<br />1-7-4-e. Impress upon the workers the need for constant awareness 
<br />Pven during automatically controlled operations of 
<br />equipment, etc. 
<br />1-7-4-f. Contractor, Fabricator or both shall provide his men with 
<br />proper safety equipment such as goggles, ear plugs, 
<br />protective clothing, etc., and insure that equipment is 
<br />used properly. 
<br />1-7-4-g, Hard Hots will be worn while any overhead work is taking 
<br />place. (no exceptions) 
<br />1-7-4-h. Barricades, flags, steel plotes over trenches, including 
<br />proper sloping and shoring of trench walls, provided by 
<br />Contractor or Fabricator as necessary to safely secure site 
<br />and protect all vehicle and' pedestrian traffic on and 
<br />near fob site. 
<br />I -7-4-i. Contractor, Fabricator shall protect adjoining properly, 
<br />earthwork, trees, etc„ from damage and give proper written 
<br />notice of proposed work to adjoining properly owners. 
<br />Damage to adjoining properties by Contractor's or 
<br />Fabricator's activities sholl be repaired at the 
<br />Contractor's or Fabricator's expense. 
<br />1-7-4-j. Contractor, Fabricator shall provide all necessary first- 
<br />aid, ambulance, and hospital services, in case of injury to 
<br />Contractor's, or Fabricator's employees on Shell premises, 
<br />1-7-4-k. Shell representative will notify dealer or station manager 
<br />(24) hours prior to Contractor, Fabricator commencing any 
<br />minor maintenance work. Dealer or station Manager will be 
<br />notified a minimum of (3) days prior to Contractor, 
<br />Fabricator commencing any major maintenance work. 
<br />1-7-4-I. Contractor, Fabricator shall NOT use Shell,s or Dealers 
<br />tools. 
<br />1-7-4-m. Contractor, Fabricator shall have a 20# ABC fire 
<br />extinguisher readly available for any work at project site 
<br />which involves use of a sparking device, or open flame, 
<br />1-7-4-n. No smoking is allowed with twenty-five feet of area where 
<br />product is being dispensed or released or whenever gasoline 
<br />vapors are present. Dealer has authority to prohibit 
<br />smoking on his facility. 
<br />1-7-5 FIRE CONTROL 
<br />1-7-5 Incose of fire the following general procedure may be used: 
<br />Notice: Contractor, Fabricator should consider the 
<br />specific situation before acting. 
<br />1-7-5-a. Turn off emergency disconnect switch or main breaker. 
<br />1-7-5-b. Evacuate area immediately. 
<br />1-7-5-c. Contact Local Fire Department. . 
<br />1-7-5-d. Attempt to extinguish only small fires or keep it from 
<br />spreading to adjacent areas. If fire is out of control 
<br />leave the area to avoid risk of injury. Notice: Use 
<br />dry chemical fire extinguisher ABC type to combat small 
<br />gasoline fires. 
<br />1-7-5-e. Fueling of running equipment is not allowed. 
<br />1.6 WELDING 
<br />1-7-6-a. WARNING - Contractor, Fabricator are responsible at all 
<br />time to keep personnel alert to potential hazards in the 
<br />work environment. You are subject to the presence of higly 
<br />compbustible materials. 
<br />1-7-6-b, Contractor; Fabricator shall be responsible for furnishing 
<br />his own equipment and personnel for testing the work area 
<br />to insure safe conditions prior to and continously during 
<br />any welding work. 
<br />1-7-6-c. Contractor; Fabricator shall provide locks to secure all 
<br />dispensers when equipment is present on construction site. 
<br />1-7-6=d. Contractor; Fabricator shall provide a Standby Fire Watch 
<br />person with a 20# ABC fire extinguisher near work area 
<br />vicinity during entire welding job, 
<br />1-7-6-e. All welding work should be done in Contractor's; 
<br />Fabricator's shop or away from gasoline dispensing area if 
<br />at all possible. 
<br />1-7-7 ELECTRICAL 
<br />1-7-7-a. Contractor; Fabricator shall turn off and lock out or 
<br />disconnect all electrical power isloaling specific circuit 
<br />or circuits at panel before starting any electrical work. 
<br />Circuit switch or breaker to be tagged to inform other 
<br />pro ect workman or station personnel of work in progress 
<br />an � ovoid accidental startup of power. 
<br />1-7-7-b. After disabling system and before starting work, 
<br />Contractor, or Fabricator shall try to activate equipment 
<br />on that circuit to insure correct system has been locked 
<br />out. 
<br />1-7-7-c. Electric panel shall be re-lobelled to reflect any wiring 
<br />changes by Contractor. 
<br />1-7-7-d. All electric work shall be in accordance with the latest 
<br />National Electric Code. 
<br />1-7-7-e. Special Note: Use only "GFI" or (3) prong plug and socket 
<br />electrical trouble cords. Cords must be inspected 
<br />routinely while on job site to ensure safe working 
<br />conditions. 
<br />1-7-8 _ GENERAL EQUIPMENT 
<br />1-7-8-a. All fire extinguishers used by Contractor shall have an 
<br />occurate-annual inspection be lagged and show when inspections 
<br />were performed deficiencies found and time corrected.
