GRI B I Associates Geological and Environmental Consulting Services
3
June 7, 1999
San Joaquin County Public Health Services
Environmental Health Division
304 E. Weber Avenue, 3`d Floor
Stockton, CA 95202
Attention: Margaret Legorio
Subject: Workplan For Onsite Re-Use of Excavated and
To Conduct Verification Soil Sampling
Tiger Lines UST Site
927 Black Diamond Way, Lodi, California
GA Project No. 161-01-01
Ladies and Gentlemen:
Gribi Associates is pleased to present this workplan on behalf of Tiger Lines for the underground
storage tank (UST) site located at 927 Black Diamond Way in Lodi, California (see Figure 1 and
Figure 2). This workplan proposes: (1)The onsite re-use of stockpiled soil excavated during recent
UST removal activities; and (2) Conducting soil sampling adjacent to the former dispenser island
using hand auger equipment. The goal of proposed activities will be to dispose of stockpiled soil
and conduct necessary soil sampling to address regulatory closure of this UST site.
SITE BACKGROUND
Three 10,000-gallon single-walled steel diesel USTs were removed from a common excavation by
Bowen Construction-Engineering on March 12, 1999. Six soil samples (two per tank, taken at each
end of the tank)collected by Mr. Jim Gribi, RG, at a depth of about 14 feet below surface grade in
native soils contained no detectable levels of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as Diesel(TPH-D) and
Benzene,Toluene,Ethylbenzene, and Xylenes (BTEX). Three soil samples were collected beneath
the removed fuel dispenser island. One of these samples collected at two feet in depth on the north
side of the removed dispenser island contained no detectable TPH-D and BTEX constituents. One
sample collected at three feet in depth on the south side of the removed dispenser island contained
500 parts per million(ppm) and no detectable BTEX constituents. On sample collected at three feet
in depth immediately west from the former dispenser island contained 1.5 ppm of TPH-D and no
BTEX constituents.
Approximately 260 cubic yards of soil was excavated during UST removal activities, with
approximately 200 cubic yards stockpiled immediately south from the UST excavation cavity
(Stockpile No. 1) and approximately 60 cubic yards stockpiled immediately east from the UST
excavation cavity(Stockpile No. 2). Eight discrete soil samples were collected from Stockpile No.
1350 Hayes Street, Suite C-14•Benicia • Califomla • 94510•Phone(707)748-7743•fax(707)748.7763
