INTERNATIONAL TECHNOLOGY CORPORATION
Mr. Richard Johnson
September 17, 1996
The methods utilized in the analysis of the pipeline verification soil samples were modified EPA
Method 8015 with a diesel standard and EPA Method 8020 for benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene
and xylenes (BTEX) distinction. Analysis of the soil samples indicated no detectable diesel fuel
concentrations. A concentration of 0.016 ppm xylenes was encountered in the soil sample SS -1
only, no detectable BTEX concentrations were encountered in the soil sample SS -2. A table
listing analytical test results and the associated method detection limits is provided below, and
copies of the laboratory reports are attached to this letter for reference.
Sample
Sample
Depth of
TPH as
Benzene
Toluene
EthylXylenes
Date
Number
Sample
Diesel
Benzene
in feet
9/16/96
SS -1
4.0
NDI.0
ND0.005
ND0.005
ND0.005
0.0160
9/16/96
SS -2
3.0
NDI.0
ND0.005
ND0.005
ND0.005
ND0.005
Note: TPH = Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons
If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me at (510) 372-5292
phone or (510) 228-2501 fax.
