L k% KLEINFELDER
May 1, 1990
File No.: 24-320066-A00
Mr. Kurt Neuharth
Brea Agriwltural Service, Inc.
Post Office Box 201059
Stockton, California 95201
Subject:
Soil Sampling Beneath
1755 Broadway,
Stockton, California
Dear Mr. Neuharth:
RECEIVED
MAY 4 1990
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH
PERMIT/SERVICES
Former Underground Fuel Tank
In February, 1990, Kleinfelder was retained to collect soil samples beneath the former
location of an underground fuel storage tank at 1755 Broadway in Stockton, California.
This letter presents the sampling procedures, the soil types encountered, and the analytical
results.
Briefly stated, two soil samples were collected and analyzed for total hydrocarbons,
benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, and xylenes (BTEX), ethylene dibromide (EDB), and
total lead. Toluene, and lead were reported near the method detection limits, and the
other results were none detected. In our opinion, the lead concentrations are
representative of background level concentrations commonly encountered in Central
Valley soils.
Based on the analytical results and field observations, Kleinfelder does not recommend any
future assessment at the site.
FIELD PROCEDURES
On April 5, 1990, Kleinfelder collected two soil samples beneath the former location of an
underground fuel storage tank at 1755 Broadway, Stockton, California (see Plate 1). Ms.
Kasey Foley of San Joaquin County Public Health Services was present for the sampling
and specified the sample locations (see Plate 2) and the required analyses. The samples
were collected from soil retrieved from the sampling depth by backhoe. The soil was silty
sand with no evidence of hydrocarbons. Ground water was not encountered during
excavation.
The samples were analyzed by Agriculture and Priority Pollutants Laboratories, Inc.
(ADPL), of Fresno, California. APPL is certified by the California Department of Health
Services to perform the required analyses. The sample locations, analytical methods and
results are shown on Table 1. The laboratory results are attached.
MscLct-003-90-078
KLEINFELDER 1975 E Street, Fresno, CA 93706 k209) 486-0750
