JGRRnffE
January 8, 2008 `ate„rN 1011Mr. Harlin Knoll REC ,,, 1922
San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department IrN 1 0 2008
600 E. Main Street ENVIRONMENT HEALTH
Stockton, CA 95202-3029 PERMIT/SERVICES
SUBJECT: Kleinfelder Report, Dated: January 3,2008
Underground Storage Tank Assessment at Granite Construction Company
10500 South Harlan Road
French Camp, California
Dear Mr. Knoll,
Granite Construction Company is respectfully requesting a"No Further Action" letter from the
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department regarding the closure-in-place of five(5)
underground tanks. In the attached tank assessment report prepared by Kleinfelder, soil samples
collected underneath the five tanks did not detect any reportable concentrations of petroleum
hydrocarbon constituents. In addition, accessibility to the underground tanks is constrained,
because located directly above are two(2) 30,000-gallon bituminous asphalt tanks that currently
support asphalt making operations. Due to limited access, the option of removing the five
underground tanks would create a negative affect to the business operations at this site.
Therefore, Granite concurs with Kleinfelder's recommendation to perform the following
abandonment methodology:
1. Abandon-in-Place, five (5)underground tanks.
2. Pour and fill a concrete & sand slurry into all five underground tanks.
3. The anticipated completion date of this project is Monday, March 31, 2008.
Please contact me at(209) 234-3529 with any questions or comments.
Sincerely,
fria'n Hof an
Environmental Coordinator
Cc: Syd DeVries, Plants Manager
Hop Essick, Branch Manager
Doug Heard, Kleinfelder
Stockton Branch
Box 151
Stockton,CA 95201
(209)982-4750
FAX(209)983-1257
