CMIstro
Capital Projects Manager
Subject: Underground Diesel Tanks at the Motor Pool
We have just received your memorandum dated July 9, 1993 regarding the above subject. You
indicated in your communication that the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Division has
cited the County for improper abandonment of two diesel fuel tanks at the Motor Pool. You also
indicated that the abandonment and closure expenditures should be performed with Capital
Improvement funds.
Please be advised that we currently have no funding available for expenditures relative to this
issue. Furthermore, this office has no responsibility or special expertise in closure plans for fuel
tanks; even if we did, we could not complete such a plan in nine working days.
It would appear that someone made the decision to abandon these fuel tanks, and did so in viola-
tion of the California Code of Regulations by failing to submit a closure plan. Accordingly, this
citation (enclosed) should be turned over to that responsible party.
tmaarol Oz, E imnmental Health Division
Encl.
