in KLEINFELDER
File No. 23-4800-20.E00
August 26, 1994
_ • Adequate work space and access will be provided. Kleinfelder will collect samples from the
bucket of the excavation contractor's equipment. Kleinfelder personnel will not enter the
excavation unless Cal -OSHA requirements have been met.
• Soil generated during the tank removal will be the responsibility of San Joaquin County.
The soil will be placed on plastic or in 55 -gallon drums in a location selected by San Joaquin
Couty. Kleinfelder can assist San Joaquin County with the disposal of the soil if requested.
• San Joaquin County will be responsible for locating all underground utilities and other
subsurface structures that could interfere or be damaged during the tank removal operations.
Underground Services Alert (USA), at 1-800-642-2444, provides this service free of charge
for major utility lines. Kleinfelder can make contact with USA for a site visit, if requested.
• The proposed scope of work is based on removing and disposing of a 8,000- and a 1,000 -
gallon UST and collecting five (5) soil samples for laboratory analysis. If additional tanks or
pipe lines are encountered, overexcavation, or more soil samples are required, additional
costs will be incurred. In such a case, San Joaquin County would be notified immediately.
LIMITATIONS
Kleinfelder offers various levels of investigative and engineering services to suit the varying
needs of different clients. Although risk can never be eliminated, more -detailed and extensive
investigations yield more information, which may help understand and manage the level of risk.
Since detailed investigation and analysis involves greater expense, our clients participate in
determining levels of service which provide adequate information for their purposes at
_ acceptable levels of risk. Acceptance of this workplan will indicate that San Joaquin County has
reviewed the scope of work and determined that it does not need or want a greater level of
service than will be provided. Any exceptions should be noted and may result in higher fees.
Regulations and professional standards applicable to Kleinfelder's services are continually
evolving. Techniques are, by necessity, often new and relatively untried. Different
professionals may reasonably adopt different approaches to similar problems. Therefore, no
warranty or guarantee, expressed or implied, will be included in Kleinfelder's scope of service.
ETH •md 7EI94
Copyright 1994 Kleinfelder, Inc. Page 4 of 5
