Be sure you know the safe way to <br /> Perform any job given to you. If there is any doubt ask your <br /> supervisor. You are not expected under any circumstance to <br /> take unnecessary chances or to work under hazardous <br /> conditions without adequate safeguards. <br /> Report to your supervisor any unsafe conditions or unsafe <br /> practice. <br /> Your suggestions and recommendations for improving are always <br /> welcome. Let's have them! <br /> Take special interest in new or inexperienced employees by <br /> calling their attention to dangerous practices and by <br /> teaching them a safe method of doing their work. <br /> Walk, do not run up or down stairs. Keep your hands out of <br /> your pockets while on the stairs and use the handrail. <br /> Obey warning tags and signs. They are posted to point out <br /> hazards. <br /> Horseplay and practical jokes are dangerous and will not be <br /> tolerated. <br /> Report all accidents to your supervisor immediately, whether <br /> or not anyone is hurt. In case of injury get first aid at <br /> once. <br /> Safety rules are for your protection. Everyone is asked to <br /> live up to the spirit as well as the letter of these rules in <br /> order to safeguard himself and his fellow workers. <br /> 2. Lifting: <br /> Do not lift awkward or especially heavy materials by <br /> yourself. Get help. <br /> Inspect the object you are going to lift for sharp corners, <br /> nails or other things that may cause injury. <br /> Crouch as close to the load as possible. Do not get into a <br /> full squat, but ben your legs as shown in the illustration. <br /> Keep your back straight, but bend at the hips so you are over <br /> the load. Lift with your leg muscles and not with your weaker <br /> back muscles. <br /> Get a firm grip on the object, straighten your legs and swing <br /> you back into a vertical position. <br />
