BASIC SAFETY Ih-sTRUCTIONS <br /> R B CONSTRUCTION, INC. PAGE 4 <br /> Before using, check the ladder for weak or damaged rails and <br /> loose or broken rungs. If found defective, take it out of <br /> service and report it to your supervisor. <br /> Face the ladder and use both hands going up or down. <br /> Do not overreach from ladders. Stay within safe limits of <br /> balance and never try to shift a ladder while you're on it. <br /> Do not leave tools on the top of a stepladder or on any other <br /> elevated place form which they may fail. <br /> Never work on the top step of a ladder. <br /> Metal ladders are not to be used when working on or near <br /> electrical equipment. <br /> Be certain the hands and feet are dry and free from grease <br /> and dirt before climbing a ladder. <br /> For any overhead work use a proper type ladder. Do not use <br /> makeshifts. <br /> 8. Personal Protection Devices: <br /> Wear goggles when handling chemicals, drilling, chipping, <br /> grinding, using wire brush, welding, using portable grinder, <br /> or on any other work where there may be flying particles. <br /> Wear a face shield where the danger from flying particles <br /> does not necessitate goggles. <br /> Wear suitable gloves or hand pads when handling sharp, heavy, <br /> rough or hot materials and chemicals. <br /> Wear a hard hat when working in the vicinity of overhead <br /> hazards. <br /> Wear a safety belt with a lifeline when working over pits, in <br /> tanks , or where there is danger of falling. <br /> Wear the right kind or respirator for dusty operations, spray <br /> painting or on similar jobs. <br /> Do not wear loose clothing, jewelry or neckties when working <br /> around machinery. <br /> Wear good, sturdy clothing that fits well and is comfortable. <br /> Wear good, well-soled shoes. When working with heavy <br /> materials, wear safety shoes. They protect, look well , and <br /> are economical. <br /> 9. Fire Prevention: <br /> Your job in fire prevention is to keep things that start fire <br /> away from things that burn. <br />
