Hazelton Avenue
Stockton, CA 95205
Attn: C. Leland Hall, Director
Environmental Health Division
Dear Mr. Khanna:
Caltrans has now received the Aqua Terra Technologies Groundwater Contam-
ination Assessment Report summarizing the installation of one monitoring well,
the chemical analysis results from soil and groundwater samples collected and
discussion of analytical results. A copy of this report (and earlier Under-
ground Tank Closure Report by 0. H. Materials) is included with this letter for
your information.
The monitoring well was installed on May 20, 1986 following the direction and
requirements of the Regional Water Quality Control Board and the San Joaquin County
Local Health District. Caltrans agreed to collect soil samples and a groundwater
sample in order to meet the underground diesel tank removal and closure work
necessary to continue freeway construction across Southern Pacific Railroad pro-
perty.
With submission of the attached report, Caltrans has now completed the agreed
to investigations regarding the SPRR diesel tank. The well is presently in place
but needs to be destroyed at the earliest opportunity for Construction support
work. If either regulatory agency wants to conduct additional testing at the well,
Caltrans requests all such work be completed at the earliest opportunity. Caltrans
also requests regulatory agency agreement that the California Department of
Transportation has no further investigation/clean-up obligation at the SPRR diesel
tank site. Caltrans will provide Southern Pacific Railroad Company a copy of
this report for information and appropriate follow-up action on their part.
