10
NOTE: Your tank will arrive with a Quick Disconnect assembly (see Figure 2.3
OD) unless you have a liquid -filled interstitial space tank. If the tank is not
configured as shown in the illustration prior to pre -installation testing, call the
Xeres Coordinator at the plant nearest you or the Technical services
Department at Xeres' headquarters.
QUICK DISCONNECT ASSEMBLY
NOTE: In order to test the primary tank alone, the test hose must NOT be
connected to the service fitting - keep the nylon tie in place.
PRIMARY (INTERNAL) TANK TEST
1. Connect the test manifold to an available service fitting.
Remove the remaining fittings, redope, and reinstall fitting
plugs.
2. Pressurize the primary tank to 5 PSIG; add or remove air as
necessary and allow the pressure to stabilize. Close the valve
on the test manifold supply line.
3. Monitor the pressure for one hour. Soap test all service fittings
and manways. Watch for active air bubbles which indicate a
leak.
------------- -
NYLON TIE
PRESSURE RELIEF DEVICE
_-- FROM COMPRESSOR
QUICK DISCONNECT AIR SUPPLY VALVE
ASSEMBLY AIR SUPPLY GAUGE
MONITOR FITTING SERVICE FITTING
FIGURE 2-3 QO
SECONDARY (EXTERNAL) TANK TEST
1. Maintain the pressure in the primary tank.
2. Free the hose from the service fitting by cutting the nylon tie.
3. Insert the hose into the Quick Disconnect check valve (found at
the top of the service fitting). This will allow air to transfer from
the primary to secondary tank.
4. Pressurize to 5 PSIG. Add or remove air via the supply valve
as needed and allow the pressure to stabilize. Close the valve
on the test manifold. Disconnect the air supply line.
5. Monitor the pressure for one hour. Soap the entire exterior of
the tank and watch for active air bubbles which indicate a leak.
When the test is complete, carefully release the air pressure from
the tank by opening the supply valve. The air supply line already
should have been disconnected. When the air flow from the
supply valve stops, remove the test manifold.
PRIMARY (INTERNAL) TANK TEST
NOTE: Keep the tank vertical (the reservoir on top) during the preinstallation
testing or the liquid (typically brine) may drain from the reservoir.
1. Open one service fitting and the fitting on the reservoir. Check
for liquid in the reservoir - it should be about half full. Do not
open the monitor fittings - liquid (typically brine) will be lost.
Remove the remaining fittings, redope, and reinstall fitting
plugs.
2. Visually check the interior of the tank for liquid - there should
not be any. Install the test manifold in the open service fitting.
Connect the pressure source to the test manifold. (See Figure 2.4).
3. Pressurize the primary (internal) tank to 5 PSIG. Add or remove
air as necessary and allow the pressure to stabilize. Close the
valve on the test manifold. Disconnect the air supply line.
4. Monitor the pressure for one hour. Soap all fittings and
manways and watch for active air bubbles which indicate a
leak. Check the reservoir for bubbles in the monitor fluid.
5. Release the pressure from the primary tank.
FROM COMPRESSOR
PRESSURE RELIEF DEVICE
AIR SUPPLY VALVE RESERVOIR FITTING
AIR SUPPLY GAUGE
SERVICE FITTING
FIGURE 2.4
SECONDARY (EXTERNAL) TANK TEST
Q CAUTION:
Do not pressurize the secondary tank (interstitial space) or the
primary tank may rupture and cause tank failure.
Check the exterior of the tank for monitoring liquid - if liquid is
found, wipe the tank dry and verify that the liquid does not
reappear. Lift the tank to check the bottom. Do not roll the tank.
0 DANGER:
Do not stand under the tank while it is being lifted.
When the test is complete, remove the test manifold. Visually
check the interior of the tank for liquid. Replace the protective
covers in the service fitting and the reservoir fitting.
K
