April 19, 1988
Page 3
B. Groundwater Well Construction
1. Casing Type, Diameter, Screen Interval, and Slot Size
The monitoring well will be completed with the installation of factory
threaded, 3-inch Schedule 40 PVC casing. The screen size will be factory
slotted 0.020-inch. Based on a well completion depth of 40 feet and a
static groundwater depth of 20 feet, screens will be placed from
approximately 10 feet to 40 feet in depth, to allow for seasonal
fluctuations in water levels.
2. Packing Depth and Size, and Seal Depth and Type
Coarse aquarium or 12 x 20 sand will be used in the annular space from the
depth of the boring to approximately 3 feet above the top of the screens.
A one-foot thick bentonite seal followed by concrete to the ground surface
will then be placed above the top of the sand pack.
3. Security
A locking cap will be installed at the top of the well and shall be
protected by a traffic rated concrete Christy box.
4. Development Procedure
As part of the groundwater sampling procedure the well will be developed
as described below under Groundwater Sampling.
5. Construction Diagram for each Well
A construction diagram for each well will be submitted with the boring
logs in the report which will be prepared following field activities.
6. Casing Elevation
Surface elevations for each well will be surveyed to the nearest
0.01-foot, and survey data will be used to calculate groundwater
elevations for the construction of groundwater contour maps, if
appropriate.
C. Groundwater Sampling
1. Water Level Measurement Procedure
Prior to groundwater sampling, the water level will be measured to the
nearest 0.01 foot.
