San Joaquin Delta Community College District Draft Environmental Impact Report for
Master Plan implementation— September 2006
The San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department(EHD) has permitted and
inspected the removal of eleven underground storage tanks (UST's) at the San Joaquin
Delta Community College site since April 1990 as detailed below.
• On April 27, 1990, a 2000 gallon UST that contained caustic material located near
the June Ferguson Pool was removed.
• On September 13, 1990, a 250 to 500 gallon UST that contained waste oil located
near the Diesel Repair Shop, a 500 gallon UST that was split into two tanks (one
containing paint and the other containing lacquer thinner) located near Archie's
Bunker, the paint shop area, and a 500 gallon UST that contained solvent located
near Archie's Bunker were removed.
• On August 10, 1994, a 250 to 500 gallon UST that contained waste oil located
near the Coleman Library was removed.
• On May 16, 1995, a 2000 gallon UST that contained regular gasoline, a 1000
gallon UST that contained diesel, a 1000 gallon UST that contained unleaded
gasoline and a 500 gallon UST that contained waste oil located near the Shima
Center were removed.
• On November 11, 2001, a 500 to 550 gallon UST that had unknown contents
located near Holt Room 127 was removed.
Soil samples were collected beneath these UST systems and analyzed by a California
certified laboratory for appropriate contaminants. The results of the laboratory tests for
all the UST's except the unknown UST removed on November 11, 2001, have been
submitted to EHD. Further investigation of the ten tanks for which sample results have
been submitted is not required. A determination on whether further investigation is
warranted with respect to the UST removed on November 11, 2001, is pending submittal
of the soil sample analytical results.
The EHD is not aware of any UST that contained gasoline being reported as leaking on
December 5, 2000. Provide the EHD with information regarding this statement that was
included in the Draft Environmental Impact Report.
If additional UST's are located at this site they must be removed under permit and
inspection of the EHD.
If contaminated soil is encountered and will be excavated, notification must be made to
the EHD.
