CLOSURE PLAN FOR THE THREE UNDERGROUND STORAGE TANKS AT <br /> SAN JOAQUIN DELTA COLLEGE <br /> 1. 0 INTRODUCTION/DESCRIPTION OF FACILITY <br /> There are three underground storage tanks present at San Joaquin <br /> Delta College (Figure 1) which are to be closed. The tank sizes, <br /> contents and locations are as follows; <br /> 1. 500 gallon waste oil storage tank - southwest corner of Holt <br /> Building near Room 136 (Figure 2) . <br /> 2 . 500 gallon split tank containing paint and lacquer thinners - <br /> southwest corner of Budd Building near "Archies Bunker" <br /> (Figure 3) . <br /> 3 . 500 gallon solvent storage tank - southwest corner of Budd <br /> Building near "Archies Bunker" (Figure 2) . <br /> The tanks were installed between 1972 and 1973 to support the <br /> diesel mechanic and paint shops. The waste oil was deposited in <br /> the tank and routinely emptied by a recycler. The two paint shop <br /> tanks were also emptied as required by a product recycler. Closure <br /> is expected to occur during the summer of 1990 (May - July 1990) . <br /> 2 . 0 ESTIMATED MAXIMUM INVENTORY <br /> San Joaquin Delta College will arrange for product removal prior to <br /> the tank closure initiation. Any product remaining will be minimal <br /> with a maxirum of 50 gallons per tank. <br /> 3 . 0 PRODUCT CHARACTERISTICS <br /> The products, as previously mentioned, are paint and lacquer <br /> thinners, solvents and waste oils. Analytical data for the <br /> thinners and solvents will be available after May 1, 1990 upon <br /> request from the San Joaquin Delta College (SJDC) Contracting <br /> Department, telephone (209) 474-5035. <br /> 4 . 0 CLOSURE STEPS <br /> Actual closure of the underground tanks will be performed by a <br /> contractor hired through the SJDC Purachsing Department. Due to <br /> the competitive bidding process, the actual contractor cannot be <br /> identified in this plan. The contractor proceeding with this <br /> project must obtain all necessary permits and comply with all <br /> requirements of the San Joaquin County Public Health Service, <br /> Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) . <br /> a. Soil and asphalt above and adjacent to the tank will be <br /> carefully removed with a backhoe and jackhammer and <br /> placed on separate plastic sheeting. The material will <br /> be covered with plastic sheeting, and may be stockpiled <br />
