k" KLEINFELDER
I ,:I jSnJICS
November 4, 1987
File: 24-2027-5
Dave Brent
California Regional Water
Quality Control Board
Central Valley Region
3443 Routier Road
Sacramento, California 95827-3098
SUBJECT: Interim Site Characterization Report (ISCR) and
Final Remediation Work Plan (FRWP), Unocal Site at
Pacific Avenue and Robinhood Drive, Stockton,
San Joaquin County.
Dear Dave:
A meeting was held at the Regional Board on 29 October 1987 for the
purpose of discussing and resolving technical issues related to the ISCR
and the FRWP for the above mentioned site. The ISCR was submitted on 29
July 1987 and the FRWP was submitted on 07 October 1987 for Regional Board
review. Present at this meeting were Dave Brent, RWQCB; Gary Reents,
RWQCB; Dan Goalwin, Unocal Corporation; Mike Cyrocki, Kleinfelder; and
Kent Zenobia, Kleinfelder. The Agenda of the meeting was focused on the
following issues:
• Vapor extraction system
• Vertical extent of ground water contamination
• Offsite ground water contamination
• Ground water remediation
A description of discussions at this 29 October 1987 meeting and the
future direction of the project follows.
VAPOR EXTRACTION SYSTEM
The proposed soil vapor extraction system as described in the FRWP appears
to be located properly to treat the contaminated vadose zone soil.
Concurrence was reached to move forward with the final design and
implementation of the vapor extraction system (VES). Kent Zenobia
indicated that the VES wells could be located under the proposed building,
since access to the wells is not necessary. Plates 1 and 2 show in a flow
diagram format the steps necessary to proceed from VES final design
through ground breaking of the proposed building. Well permits for these
seven vadose zone wells will b. obtained from the San Joaquin County
Health District prior to drilling. (Applications attached to the SJLHD
correspondence) .
KLEINFELDER 9795 Business Park Drive, Suite C, Sacramento, CA 95827 (916) 366-1701
