6eoHydrologic Consultants, Inc.
because well VW-3 (due to its close proximity to vapor well VW-2-S/VW-2-D),would
capture any residual hydrocarbon vapors from the area of former well VW-2-SNW-2-D.
The wells were re-drilled in the backfilled former UST excavation area to their same total
depths of approximately 36 feet, 58 feet, and 73 feet bgs for VW-3, MW-11, and MW-12,
respectively. The screened intervals were from 26 feet to 36 feet(10 feet)and 38 feet to
58 feet bgs(20 feet), respectively for VW-3 and MW-11 and 68 feet to 73 feet bgs (5
feet)for MW-12. Wells VW-3 and MW-11 were constructed with 2-inch diameter
schedule 40 PVC with 0.010-inch slotted screens and well MW-12 was constructed with
4-inch diameter schedule 40 PVC with 0.010-inch slotted screen.
For MW-12, a#2/12 sand pack was placed around the screen interval, with the sand pack
extending from total depth to approximately 4 feet above the top of the screened interval
(63 to 73 feet bgs),followed by a bentonite chip seal placed on top of the sand pack for a
minimum of 3 feet thickness and hydrated, bentonite grout was placed to within 2 feet of
the ground surface, and the well was finished with 12-inch diameter locking monument
style well box set in 2 foot of concrete. For MW-11, a#2/12 sand pack was placed
around the screen interval, with the sand pack extending from total depth to
approximately 4 feet above the top of the screened interval (37.5 to 58 feet bgs), a
bentonite chip seal was placed on top of the sand pack for a minimum of 3 feet thickness
and hydrated, bentonite grout was placed to within 2 feet of the ground surface, and the
well was finished with 12-inch diameter monument style locking well box set in 2 foot of
concrete. Well VW-3 had a#2/12 sand pack placed around the screen interval, with the
sand pack extending from total depth to approximately 1.5 feet above the top of the
screened interval (24.5 to 36 feet bgs), a bentonite chip seal was placed on top of the sand
pack for a minimum of 3 feet thickness and hydrated, bentonite grout was placed to
within 2 feet of the ground surface, and the well was finished with 12-inch diameter
monument style locking well box set in 2 foot of concrete.
Well installation boring logs are attached in Appendix E.
3.6 Reconnection of Remediation System Piping
After UST removal activities and replacement well installation, new wells MW-11, MW_
12, and VW-3 were reconnected and plumbed above grade back to the remediation
system by Tafoya. Other existing wells which were connected to the remediation system
(where piping crossed in the UST excavation)were reconnected below grade prior to
backfill of the excavation. Vapor lines to VW-2 (s,d)were stubbed up and capped at the
edge of the excavation for potential future use. An as-built of the piping layout and
photographs showing relocated piping to newly installed wells MW-11, MW-12, and
VW-3 and to the remediation system are located in Appendix F.
TOC 172 UST Removal Report Final Page 12
