1
S.
2.5 Closure and Restoration
' 2.5. I Soils
Based on the results of the soil sample analyses, the excavation will
either be backfilled or further excavated. If chemicals are not present or
' are detected at levels below regulatory clean-up standards the excavation
will be backfilled with clean soils removed above the level of the buried
' tank as well as with imported fill . Backfill material will be compacted to
90 percent relative compaction to within one foot of surrounding grade.
' The final surface will be compacted with the same material that was in
place prior to excavation.
In the event that chemicals are detected in the soil samples above
regulatory clean-up levels, a second round of excavation and sampling will
' be performed. The need for further excavation or the implementation of
alternative remedial actions for contaminated soils will be based on the
results of the second round of analyses and on field observations regarding
the extent of contamination and volume of soils impacted. In some cases,
' it may be more cost effective to implement actions other than excavation
and off-site disposal .
2.5.2 Ground Water
At this time, based on the site visit and review of local
geology/hydrogeology, it is not expected that ground water will be
' encountered during excavation operations. If however, ground water is
encountered, a water sample will be collected and analyzed for the
appropriate tank content constituents as listed above. Samples will be
collected using laboratory prepared glass sample bottles equipped with
teflon lined lids. If chemicals are detected, a proposal for ground water
remediation will be developed. A typical remediation might consist of
initially installing three monitoring wells in an effort to assess the
nature and extent of ground water contamination and to provide information
1 CanonleEnvironmental
