This will ensure that the pipe
O.D. conforms to the I.D. of the sad-
dle. The clamps may be left on or re-
moved after the bond has cured and
after the flexible connector is installed
in the outlet.
Caution: Product pipe may be un-
der pressure if the testing has been
completed. Do not attempt to in-
isstall a saddle on the containment pipe if
the product piping system has been in-
stalled and tested.
SECTION 7 • ADHESIVE BONDING AND CURING
2.7.1 Introduction
Before bonding the two-piece containment fittings, the
installation procedures should be reviewed with the in-
stallation crew members. In order to maintain the effi-
ciency of the installation, a minimum of three workers
is recommended: one worker to mix and apply adhesive
to the secondary containment fittings, and the two re-
maining workers to assemble and bolt the fittings to-
gether.
For secondary containment systems conveying alcohols or
alcohol/gasoline blends, use DS -8000 series or DS -7000 se-
ries adhesives. (NOTE: For primary systems conveying al-
cohols or alcohol/gasoline blends, use only DS -8000 series
adhesive.)
Follow the adhesive mixing instructions that are packaged
with each kit. FILLER MUST BE ADDED TO THICKEN
THE ADHESIVE. The filler is packaged in premeasured
quantities for use with DS -7014 or DS -8014 and DS -7069
or DS -8069 adhesive kits. One bag of filler is used for each
adhesive kit. Before adding the filler to the mixed adhe-
sive, be sure both the adhesive base and hardener are thor-
oughly mixed together. All of the filler in the bag should
4 i
Q .
Y
F
FIGURE 2.6.1
FIGURE 2.6.2
be used. The thickened adhesive may be applied with ei-
ther the brush or the stir stick provided in the kit.
Refer to Table 2.7.1 for the number of containment fit-
tings that can be bonded per adhesive kit.
Note: Number of containment fittings per adhesive kit is
based on applying a X6" (1.6 mm) minimum thickness of
adhesive to both halves of the fitting and to the pipe ends.
2.7.2 Cleaning the Bonding Surfaces
Smith Fiberglass Products has determined that cleaning
the bonding surface is required only when the bonding
surfaces, on either pipe or fittings, have been contaminat-
ed by grease, oil, dirt, fingerprints, etc. Freshly tapered
spigots or scarfs or factory -fresh spigots, scarfs, or bells do
not require solvent cleaning unless visibly contaminated.
DO NOT TOUCH THE BONDING SURFACES OR ALLOW
THEM TO BECOME CONTAMINATED.
Acceptable cleaning methods for containment piping are
as follows:
• Sand all bonding surfaces until contaminated area is
removed.
RED THREAD HA Pipe & Fittings ow 27
