Weber Ave. Third Floor
Stockton, Ca 95202
SUBJECT: Underground Storage Tank Removal at 104 N. School St.
This letter is being written to explain the circumstances under which the underground
tank at 104 N. School St. was discovered and to ask for your consideration in reducing
our fees for its removal.
The City of Lodi currently has a contract with Crutchfield Construction to install new
sewer mains and water mains in School Street between Lodi Avenue and Locust
Street. Part of Crutchfield's work involved the installation of a new sewer main in
School Street north of Elm Street and also the installation of a new sewer service to
104 N. School St.
As there appeared to be an existing sewer clean out in the sidewalk at 104 N. School
St., our Public Works Inspector instructed Crutchfield to connect the "clean out" to the
new sewer main. Crutchfield's crew began to demolish the sidewalk area around the
"clean out" and discovered that it was a riser to an abandoned underground tank.
The City does not have any records indicating the existence of an underground tank in
this area and an investigation inside the building did not reveal any old, abandoned
plumbing being stubbed out toward School Street.
As we had no prior knowledge of the underground tank at 104 N. School Street, we are
requesting that you study our circumstances and do whatever you can to reduce our
fees for the removal of the tank. Should you need additional information, please
contact me at 333-6800 ext. 669.
e`` izl/
-iesujit I
Senior Civil Engineer
cc: Water/Wastewater Superintendent
PW Inspector Juran
ENVHLTH.DOC
