Heran:
Per our telephone Conversation 5/1/89, I have prepare;:: more
detailed description of the quench water recirculation
which includes the two recirculation sumps.
Water is used as a lubricant and coolant in the handlii.;. o
molten glass. It flows continuously in the molten glass rejection
chutes of each forming machine to quench tubs in the plant '?
basement. The quench tubs collect and cool rejected molten glass
for subsequent recycling. Quench water continuously overflows the
-
glass collection tubs onto the floor and drains to the subject q
quench water recirculation sumps. Pumps continuously return the,
quench water to the forming machinee from the process sumps thus;
completing the recirculation loop.
Y Via,
Oil picked up by the recirculating water is continuously remove
mers.
from the sump surface with oil skimRecovered oil i ,.
collected in above ground tanks and routinely picked up by a
registered oil rsoyoler. Sludge, which gradually accumulates fh
the sumps, consists of glass fines and dirt. It is removed
occasionally as a general maintenance practice, usually during
major shut - owns. When removed, it is disposed of as hazardous ;*
waste due its trace oil content.
Hopefully, this deE,-ription of our quench water recirculation
sYst'm will clarify how the subject sumps function as a dynami
part of the continuous manufacturing process. They are not
storage tanks as defined by underground storage tank regulation
and exp) :kined by Joe Green in his letter, of October 27, 1988.
If I can be of further assistance to
You or those reviewing thilif
requ, - for delisting, please contact me at (415) 463-7950.
Very truly yours, '
Robert C.
