Box 2263
Irwindale, California 91706
Attn: Mr. Dwight Beavers
Dear Mr. Beavers:
In response to your letter to Don Rothenbaum of April 17, 1987 concerning
an underground tank in the Lindon area, J.H. Kleinfelder & Associates is
pleased to present a soil testing plan for your submittal to the San
Joaquin Local Health District.
The following is a description of services to be implemented by
Kleinfelder to complete Industrial Asphalt's underground tank closure at
the Lindon site. Two soil samples, one at either end of the tank
location, will be collected at a depth of 5 to 6 feet from ground surface,
1 to 2 feet below the bottom of the tank into native soil.
Two options of sample collection are presented herein:
OPTION A
Industrial Asphalt will provide a backhoe service to excavate to 'a depth
of not more than 5 feet at either end of the tank location. A Kleinfelder
geologist will then collect -one soil sample in a brass tube at both
excavations provided the excavation is not deeper than 5 feet in
accordance with OSHA regulations. In the event the excavation is deeper
than 5 feet, the backhoe will reach the sample and bring it to the surface
for our sampling activity. The tubed samples will then be properly field
checked and preserved for laboratory analysis as described in Option B.
OPTION B
The samples will be collected by drilling a 6-inch hollow stem auger to 12
inches above the sampling depth and hammering 18 inches a decontaminated
modified porter sampler inner-sleeved with three 6-inch brass tubes. The
bottom and middle tube will be covered in aluminum foil, capped with
plastic caps, and placed in an iced cooler. An organic vapor analyzer
will be used to qualitatively screen soil from the top tube for the
presence of petroleum hydrocarbons. The two borings will be backfilled
with neat cement.
O1H4P I I C f S lYalnut Cfeek .
