ARCADIS Ms. Kathryn Dominic ,
August 24, 2010
1
biotreatment bed in native soil (3 ft bgs). However, it is apparent that the ,
biotreatment bed thickness varied across the site and in some places is likely thicker
than 3 feet. ,
Soil samples were collected using a hand auger and slide-hammer sampler. The soil
cuttings were classified in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System '
(USCS). The boring logs are provided in Appendix B. Samples were placed in
appropriate containers, labeled, sealed, packed on ice, and submitted under
standard chain-of-custody to TestAmerica, Inc., a state-certified laboratory. The '
samples were analyzed for TPH-d using United States Environmental Protection
Agency(US EPA) Method 8015B (with and without silica gel preparation [US EPA
Method 3630C]) '
Conestoga-Rovers Associates (CRA)was contracted by UPRR to conduct a data
validation and prepare a report to document the accuracy and quality control for the '
analytical results.
Post-Remediation Soil Sampling Results '
The analytical results are summarized in Table 1 and the laboratory reports are
included in Appendix C. The data validation report prepared by CRA is included in '
Appendix D.
TPH-mo concentrations in samples collected during March 2010 ranged from "non- '
detect' (not detected above the reporting limit) in three of the six three-foot deep
samples to 970 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg; HA-6, 1 ft bgs). Although TPH-mo
has no corresponding CAO cleanup concentration, the data are summarized for '
reference in Table 1.
As shown in Table 1, TPH-d concentrations in samples collected during March 2010 '
ranged from "non-detect' (not detected above the reporting limit; HA-5, 3 ft bgs)to
620 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg; HA-6, 1 ft bgs). Although the TPH-d
concentrations exceed the CAO cleanup concentration of 50 mg/kg in eight of the '
twelve samples collected, the corresponding soil samples collected from 3 ft bgs are
generally lower that the sample collected from 1 ft bgs depth interval at each
location. Considering only the soil samples collected from 3 ft bgs, only two of the six '
samples slightly exceed the CAO cleanup concentration (HA-1 [98 mg/kg] and HA-3
[74 mg/kg]).
