1
ARCADIS Amy S. Terrell
November 14, 2012
1 Objective
The objective was to destroy 15 groundwater wells (IGW-1 through IGW-10,
MW-16B, MW-18A, MW-18B, MW-19A and MW-20A)to eliminate the potential risk
of contamination to groundwater through the wells. This objective was met by
' destroying the wells in accordance with the Work Plan.
Scope of Work
' The following scope of work was conducted:
' • Pre-field activities
• Well destruction activities
• Waste management activities
Details regarding these activities are provided in the following sections.
' Pre-Field Activities
ARCADIS obtained well destruction permits for destroying the wells from the San
' Joaquin County Environmental Health Department(SJCEHD; Appendix A).
ARCADIS contacted Underground Service Alert and the UPRR Call-Before You Dig
' Hotline on October 10, 2012 and received active accounts for underground utility
clearance. On October 10, 2012, ARCADIS supervised Cruz Brothers Locators, a
private utility locator, clear the proposed well destruction locations of underground
' utilities and obstructions using a metal detector and radio frequency detector.
' Well Destruction Activities
Well destruction activities were conducted during the week of October 15, 2012. The
' locations of the 15 destroyed wells are presented on Figures 2 and 3 and are
summarized in Table 1. Well Destruction Logs are included in Appendix B.
' ARCADIS supervised the well destruction activities which were destroyed in
accordance with SJCEHD standards by Penecore Environmental Drilling
Professionals, a C-57 California State-licensed drilling company. Wells were
' destroyed either by pressure grouting the wells in-place or by removing the entire
casing and backfilling the boring with cement grout, as described in the following
subsections. The specific method used at each well is indicated in Table 1.
1
1
Page:
' Tracy MainLWNl Des cl RpgH-W2).doc 2/4
