' ARCADIS Phase II Field
Investigation and LNAPL
' Mobility Evaluation Report
Union Pacific Railroad Company
' Former Maintenance Facility
Tracy, California
Safety Plan, following both UPRR and ARCADIS health and safety procedures
' and policies.
3.1 LIF Investigation
ARCADIS provided oversight of Fugro Geosciences Inc. during advancement of 18 LIF
borings(LIF-17 through LIF-32, LIF-36,and LIF-40 as shown on Figure 2)to delineate
' the presence of LNAPL in the subsurface on October 20 to 23,2009. The LIF tool was
advanced, in conjunction'with CPT, using a 20-ton CPT rig to a maximum depth of 30
feet bgs following procedures outlined in the Work Plan. Percent fluorescence and
lithologic data were continually logged and electronic logs were provided to ARCADIS
in the field. LIF results are shown on Figure 7, and lithologic logs are included in
Appendix A.
' LIF data showed high fluorescence at borings LIF-24, LIF-25, and LIF-26 located along
the southern edge of the tracks;therefore, six additional locations(LIF-37, LIF-43, LIF-
44, LIF-45, LIF-46, and LIF47)were added. In addition, medium fluorescence was
observed at LIF-32 and LIF-20;therefore,three additional locations (LIF-38, LIF-41,
and LIF-42)were added.
3.2 CPT/HP Investigation
ARCADIS provided oversight of Gregg Drilling and Testing, Inc. (Gregg)during
advancement of 19 CPT/HP borings(HP-1 through HP-10, HP-17,and HP-19 through
HP-26)on November 2 to 10, 2009(Figure 2).
' Grab groundwater samples were collected from the A-Zone at depths ranging from 10
to 15 feet bgs using an HP tool following procedures outlined in the Work Plan. Grab
groundwater samples could not be collected at HP-1, HP-2, HP-3, and HP-24 because
' there was no water in the boreholes. Samples were collected in laboratory-supplied
containers and couriered to TestAmerica Laboratories under chain-of-custody protocol.
Samples were analyzed for the following:
' • TEPH-d using United States Environmental Protection Agency(USEPA)
Method 80158
' • TEPH-d following a silica gel cleanup using USEPA
Method 3630C
' • VOCs using USEPA Method 82606
W.p4e anW mmaVl1-2e 01al.
' 7
