v
Ms . Laurie Cotulla
Page 3
March 5 , 1987
The maximum amount of material that is stored in these
tanks at any time is less than 2 , 000 gallons. To fill them
to the tap for precision testing would require a tremendous
excess inventory. Annual throughput for the products inven-
toried in these tanks range from 4 , 000-10 , 000 gallons, with
the average being 6 , 500 gallons . Precision testing would
saddle us with an inventory turn of less than one per year,
and would, I feel, pose a greater threat to the environment
in the event of a leak.
I am proposing that we be allowed to forego a precision
test until December 15 , 1987 for these tanks. In the interim,
we shall keep a minimum of inventory ( less than 2 , 000 gallons )
in these tanks , and shall continue to daily monitor these
tanks per alternative #8 . Any tanks that we plan to utilize
past this time will be immediately precision tested.
Previsions would be made for either the removal of , or
the permanent closure of all single wall underground tanks at
this facility to comply with the deadline of August , 1988 .
The Vice-President of our company will be in the Stockton
area during the week of March 23 , 1987 . I would like to meet
with you during this time to discuss this matter in greater
detail.
Please contact me in order that we may establish a
mutually convenient meeting time.
Thank you for your consideration in this matter.
Very truly yours ,
MORTON PAINT COMPANY
William C . inz
General Manager
WCR/pld
cc Andy Lesko
