Six soil borings were performed. These are designated as numbers one
through six on the data tables and were located as (allows:
Location
I West Side Tank 1
2 East Side Tank 2
3 West Side Tank 5
4 East Side Tank 6
5 West Side Tank 9
6 East Side Tank 10
Upon arrival at the site, the tanks were sticked to determine the
depth and the presence of pitting on the internal surface immediately
below the an pipe. This location is the most susceptible to internal
ccrro n because bath the sticking and filling processes tend to
remove polarization films from the metal surface. Although the test
program is designed to evaluate external corrosion, this approximation
of the internal condition of the tanks indicated a rough surface
(possible pitting corrosion) in eight of the ten tanks.
3.2 Hydrocarbon Detection
During neither the field bestLng nor laboratory analysis, were any
hydrocarbons or product detected in the sail by the engineer and
technicians.
3.3 Ctrrcsion Model.
Fallowing completion of the field survey and sail sample testing, all
information was evaluated by a computer model to determine the mean
time to corrosion failure (M TC F). The computer printouts for each
group of tanks are included in Appendix B. input parameters include:
