Simpson JUN 71988
EMWiROMENTAL HEALTH
Simpson Paper Company EERMIT/SERVICES
Ripon Mill POST OFFICE BOX 757
RIPON, CALIFORNIA 95366(209) 599-4241
June 6, 1988
Mr. Jaime Favil.a
San Joaquin Local Health District
1601 Hazelton Avenue
Box 2009
Stockton, CA 95201 Re: Your memo of 5/24/8$ - UST
Dear Mr. Favila:
In response to your request of 5/24/88, the following information is provided
regarding the history of underground storage tanks at the Ripon Mill:
1. UST #1 was installed in 1962 and was used to store
300 gallons of gasoline for the emergency fire pump
and was located about 15 feet south of the building
that houses the fire pump. It was abandoned in 1982
in the ground and filled with water.
2. UST #2 was installed in 1982 to replaced UST #1 and
was used for the same purpose. It was located
approximately 15 feet north of the fire pump building.
3. Both tanks were registered with the California Water
Resources Control Board on May 29, 1984, copies of
which are enclosed.
4. UST #1 and UST #2 were removed from the ground in early
1986 because of impending regulatory requirements concerning
underground storage tanks.
5. UST #1 is still on Company property. UST #2 was given or
sold to an employee. We apparently did not file a notice
that the tanks had been removed from the ground.
6. An above-ground fuel tank is now in place to service the
fire pump.
