1 Ill. FACILITY BACKGROUND <br />A. FACILITY BACKGROUND AND DESCRIPTION: Newark Sierra Paperboard Mill with three <br />' inactive ftwo whole one partiallgasoline USTs. The USTs are presently filled with sand and <br />residual iproduct remaining in the USTs. <br />' B. SITE HISTORY (USE OF SITE, ORIGIN OF CONTAIIIINATION): The site use is a paper- <br />board mill The property with the USTs is owned by Newark Sierra and formerly was occupied <br />by a auto repair facility operating rior to the 1940'x. The age of the USTs are unknown. <br />There is the ipotential for unauthorized releases through leaks and or minors ills <br />during filling operations over time. <br />' C. HAZARDOUS INCIDENCE HISTORY (HISTORY OF INJURIES, EXPOSURE, CHEMICAL <br />SPILLS, COMPLAINTS, ETC.): Potential unauthorized releases from the UST through leaks and <br />or minor spills during filling operations over time. <br />D. PURPOSE OF ACTIVITY/OBJECTIVE OF HLA's WORK (CHARACTERIZATION, REMEDIAL <br />ACTIONS, EXCAVATION, TRENCHING; INCLUDE LOCATION WITH RESPECT TO AREAS <br />OF KNOWN OR SUSPECTED CONTAMINATION): Removal of USTs. <br />Collect UST removal samples and potentially perform over -excavation and confirmation <br />' sampling from bottom of excavation with backhoe bucket. Backfill and compact excavation <br />in lifts. <br />E. SITE STATUS (ACTIVE, INACTIVE, UNKNOWN): Active Paperboard Mill <br />' F. SURROUNDINGS (LOCATION WITH RESPECT TO CITY, ROADS, RESIDENCES, <br />BUSINESSES, NATURAL FEATURES, GRADIENTS, TANKS, ETC.): Site occupies a roxi- <br />ately 0 15 acres of land at 445 Stockton Street, Stockton CA. The site is situated in flat <br />area surrounded by light and heavy industrial facilities and also by residential areas. <br />' G.
