PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT <br /> Based on evaluation of potential hazards, the following levels of personal protection have been <br /> designated for the applicable work areas or task: <br /> Location Job Function Levels of Protection <br /> Exclusion Zone Drill borings A B C D Other <br /> Reduction Zone Preserve samples A B C D Other <br /> Maintain boring logs <br /> Support Zone Support functions A B C D Other <br /> Equipment Decontamination <br /> Specific protective equipment for each level of protection used is follows: <br /> Level D: hard hat <br /> steel-toed boots <br /> half-faced respirator (if necessary) <br /> gloves <br /> safety lasses <br /> In areas of high noise levels(around drilling rig or probing rig,etc.)hearing protection must be wom. <br /> If air purifying respirators are authorized, organic vapor and dust is the appropriate canister for use <br /> with the involved substances and concentrations. The general work area will be monitored with an <br /> organic vapor analyzer to detect organic vapor and take appropriate protective actions. <br /> Team members may upgrade to include respirators as directed by the site safety officer, project team <br /> leader, or own initiative; however site safety officer and project team leader must concur to reduce <br /> back to level D. No down-grading of the specified levels of protection shall be made without the <br /> approval of the site safety officer and the project team leader. <br /> If site conditions require up-grading of personal protection level beyond Level D with respirators, <br /> field work will be suspended and all personnel will depart the affected area. In this situation, work <br /> will be suspended until a new, appropriate work plan has been approved. <br />
