PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
Based on evaluation of potential hazards, the following levels of personal protection have been
designated for the applicable work areas or task:
Location Job Function Levels of Protection
Exclusion Zone Drill borings A B C D Other
Reduction Zone Preserve samples A B C D Other
Maintain boring logs
Support Zone Support functions A B C D Other
Equipment Decontamination
Specific protective equipment for each level of protection used is follows:
Level D: hard hat
steel-toed boots
half-faced respirator (if necessary)
gloves
safety lasses
In areas of high noise levels(around drilling rig or probing rig, etc.)hearing protection must be wom.
If air purifying respirators are authorized, organic vapor and dust is the appropriate canister for use
with the involved substances and concentrations. The general work area will be monitored with an
organic vapor analyzer to detect organic vapor and take appropriate protective actions.
Team members may upgrade to include respirators as directed by the site safety officer, project team
leader, or own initiative; however site safety officer and project team leader must concur to reduce
back to level D. No down-grading of the specified levels of protection shall be made without the
approval of the site safety officer and the project team leader.
If site conditions require up-grading of personal protection level beyond Level D with respirators,
field work will be suspended and all personnel will depart the affected area. In this situation, work
will be suspended until a new, appropriate work plan has been approved.
