Chronic: Depending on respirable silica content and usage, could contribute to the <br /> development of silicosis pneumoconiosis or lung cancer. Nickel compounds are recognized carcinogens. <br /> Carcinneeni6ty: NTP: NIA IARC Monographs: X OSHA Rei=mated; NIA <br /> The carcinogenicity of crystalline silica is discussed in International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) <br /> Monograph Volume 42, `Silica and Some Silicates', 1987. IARC concludes crystalline silica is probably <br /> carcinogenic to humans (there is sufficient evidence of carcinogenicity to experimental animals but limited <br /> evidence for carcinogenicity to humans (Group 2A)). <br /> The carcinogenicity of nickel compounds is discussed in IARC Monograph Volume 49, "Chromium, Nickel, <br /> and Welding', 1990. IARC concludes nickel compounds are carcinogenic to humans (Group 1). <br /> Signs and Symptoms of Exposure: Contact with dust on skin or eyes may cause irritation. Dust may irritate the <br /> nose and throat. <br /> Medical Condition: Generally aggravated by exposure. Respiratory illness. <br /> Emergency and First Aid Procedures: EYES: Flush eyes with water for 15 minutes. Contact physician if irritation <br /> continues. SKIN: Wash contaminated area with water. INHALATION: Remove to fresh air. <br /> Work/Hygienic Practices: Use appropriate respiratory protections.
