ENVIRONMENTAL AGE ENERGY MINERALS
ANANIA GEOLOGIC ENGINEERING
RAINBO BAKING COMPANY'S
PERMANENT CLOSURE OF 10,000 GALLON UNDERGROUND FUEL
STORAGE TANK AT THE 906 TOMMYDON FACILITY
IN STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA
November 18, 1988
AGE Project No. 025-88-068
Rainbo Baking Company has complied with all of the permanent closure requirements for
underground storage tanks in accordance with Title 26, Division 23, Section 2672 of the
California Code of Regulations. The tank was removed on September 30, 1988, by Franklin
Maintenance & Equipment Company. A tank closure permit and disposal certificate were
filed with the San Joaquin County Local Health District (Attachment A). The excavation
appeared clean with no perceptable soil discoloration and only a very slight odor of gasoline
was present. Soil types in the excavation included silty sand and clay layers. There were
no indications of leaks.
In compliance with local regulatory guidelines, two grab soil samples were taken from the
backhoe bucket excavated from each end of the tank, approximately two feet below the
excavation bottom. The samples were placed in glass jars, labelled, and transported in an
iced container under proper chain of custody protocol, to ANLAB, a California Department
of Health Services certified laboratory. Copies of the analytical results, chain of custody
record, sample location map and tank excavation form are included as Attachment B.
The samples were analyzed for benzene, toluene, xylene and ethyl benzene by EPA Method
8020, total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) by EPA Modified Method 8015, and total lead.
The certified analytical results show soil in the vicinity of the tank is clean. TPH
concentrations were not detected at levels above 10 parts per million (ppm) and total lead
concentrations were reported as 13 and 16 ppm. The sample from the north end of the
tank excavation (Tank 1A) had less than 0.03 ppm benzene, 0.12 ppm ethyl benzene, 0.04
ppm toluene and 0.35 ppm xylene detected. The sample from the south end of the tank
excavation (Tank 113) had concentrations of less than 0.03 ppm benzene, ethyl benzene,
toluene and xylene. Based on the analytical results, no further action is required at this
site.
Prepared by:
A Date: 11 elle
Mary Scruggs, 64logist and Project Manager
I hereby certify that the above described work was performed under my direct supervision.
In addition, the soil in the vicirij.€ orementioned underground fuel tank at the
Tommydon facility, requires f(Wtytlb!e based upon the analytical results reported
herein.
Certified by:
AGE
Date:
144735THSE(O,LI FOR N I A. 95816 PHONE(916)451-0921
