If closer than <br /> 10 feet : <br /> * Keep equipment in sight at all times . <br /> * Inform the operator of your location . <br /> The working area will be closed to traffic with barricades , <br /> caution tape, cones , and other traffic control equipment . If the <br /> area cannot be barricaded , a flagperson will be assigned to <br /> direct traffic . <br /> No unauthorized or unessential vehicle will be allowed to <br /> enter the barricaded area. <br /> 3. 1 . 2 Open Excavation Pit Hazards <br /> open excavation pits shall be clearly marked and barricaded. <br /> No confined space entry will be allowed . If a person falls <br /> into an open pit : <br /> All excavations over five feet in depth shall be shored or <br /> sloped according to State of California, Cal/OSHA <br /> requirements . <br /> All excavations to which the permit applies shall be under <br /> constant , competent supervision . <br /> Hard hats shall be worn in the excavation at all times . <br /> A ladder or other means of egress shall be located no more <br /> than 25 feet from all employees in the excavation . <br /> Spoil shall be removed at least two feet from the edge of <br /> the excavation . <br /> All alternate shoring or sloping plans or any shoring or <br /> sloping plan for an excavation deeper than 20 feet shall be <br /> designed and approved by a California Registered Engineer <br /> If work involves a live sewer line or manhole or any other <br /> source of flammable or toxic gases or any possibility of <br /> oxygen deficiency , tests shall be made and recorded for <br /> Page - 6 <br />
