0 0 <br /> 5E. SPILL, NON-TRANSPORTATION RELATED - INVOLVING WATER CONTACT <br /> Use this response procedure for non-oil spills. Oil spills include spills <br /> involving gasoline, diesel and fuel oil , lubricating and insulating oils, PCBs, <br /> condensate, pipeline liquids, turbine oil , and solvents. For spills involving <br /> these materials, follow the response procedures in Procedure 5N, Spill , Oil <br /> and/or PCBs. <br /> If a spill occurs at the facility which may impact a nearby water body (creek, <br /> river, pond, marsh, etc.) , follow these procedures: <br /> 1 . Try to prevent the situation from worsening by stopping the release and/or <br /> diverting the release away from the water body. DO SO ONLY IF IT CAN BE <br /> DONE SAFELY using the proper personnel protective equipment. <br /> Stop the release. <br /> a. Shut valves, stop processes or operations where necessary. <br /> b. Divert spill runoff into containers. <br /> 2. Take care of any injured. Call an ambulance or paramedics. <br /> 3. Prevent release from entering water body. <br /> a. Booms <br /> b. Spill pads <br /> c. Absorbent <br /> d. Divert flow <br /> e. Trench <br /> 4. Isolate spill from human and vehicular contact. Suggested methods: <br /> a. Cones <br /> b. Stanchions and tape <br /> c. Post a sign <br /> 5. IF IT CAN BE DONE SAFELY, continue to try to stop the escaping material <br /> from entering the water body. <br /> 6. Begin to fill out Scene-Management Checklist (Section 8) . <br /> 7. Call Facility Emergency Coordinator or alternate. <br /> 8. Call shift supervisor. <br /> 5-14 <br />
