G . & E . <br /> and utility companies in keeping respective services and <br /> facilities in operation . G . & E . or others , except when <br /> permitted in writing by Engineer and then only after <br /> acceptable temporary utility services have been <br /> provided . <br /> 10 . 6 Products : <br /> 10 . 6 . 1 Soil Materials : <br /> 10. 6 . 1 . 1 Satisfactory Imported Soil Materials For Controlled <br /> Fill : Free of organics , debris , and other deleterious <br /> material . Predominantly granular in nature , <br /> plasticity index of 15 or less . Free of rocks in <br /> excess of 2- 1 / 2 " in size . Sufficient fine soils to <br /> provide a competent matrix surrounding all rocks . <br /> Resistance R-value on the order of 40 . Sufficient <br /> binder to allow utility trenches to stand open. <br /> 10 . 6 . 1 . 2 Unsatisfactory Soil are materials that are highly <br /> organic ASTM D-2487 , Group PT , containing topsoil , <br /> roots , vegetable matter , trash , and debris . <br /> 10 . 6 . 1 . 3 Drainage Fill : Washed , evenly graded mixture of <br /> uncrushed gravel , with 100% passing a 1•-1 / 2 " sieve and <br /> not more than 5% passing a No . 4 sieve . <br /> 10 . 6 . 1 . 4 Pea Gravel Fill . Clean, washed , ASTM C-33 <br /> 10 . 6 . 1 . 5 Sand Fill : Clean, washed sand , ASTM C-33 <br /> 10 . 6 . 2 Excavation : Excavation consists of removal and disposal <br /> of material encountered when establishing required <br /> finish grade elevations . <br /> X-2 <br />
