GOLD COAST COATING, IN*
FIBERGLASS LINING SPECIFCATIONS
I. PRODUCT REMOVAL
Product will be removed to an inch or less prior to the
commencement of work by the purchaser .
II. EXCAVATION
Excavation will consist of a 5x5 hole down to the center of each
tank. If done by the purchaser, it will be excavated prior to
the commencement of work.
III. REMOVAL OF FLAMMABLE VAPORS
Sources of igninition must be removed from the area surrounding
the tank and vapor vents during periods when flammable vapors may
be expelled. Work will not commence during electrical storms and
when the wind may carry vapors into areas that could create a
hazardous condition. The tank will be thoroughly purged of
vapors. Ventilation will consist of an eductor (vacuum) type
system. This system is usually driven by compressed air and shall
be properly grounded to eliminate the possibility of a static
discharge . When using this method, the fill tube shall remain in
place to ensure that the ventilation is at the bottom. An
extention tube that is at least 12 feet above grade will be used
to discharge the vapors above the working areas.
IV. TESTING FLAMMABLE VAPOR CONCENTRATION
Vapor testing will be made with a combustible gas indicator .
Persons responsible for taking vapor readings shall be fully
trained with use of the instrument and the interpertations*of the
instrument readings. Readings are to be taken with a probe at
the fill opening while the air educter is on. No hot work
(drilling, cutting, etc. ) shall be performed until a reading of
.10 LEL (lower flammable limit) has been acheived. Once a
reading of . 10 LEL is established, one hole is to be drilled
where the access opening is to be cut. After the hole has been
drilled, another reading must be taken with a probe at the drill
hole to insure that a safe atmosphere has been established.
V. CUTTING THE ACCESS OPENING
Once a safe atmosphere has been established, an opening shall be
cut to the minimum deminsions of 20"x 20" . Ventilation and vapor
readings must continue throughout this process to ensure that a
safe atmosphere is maintained. The saw blade is to be oiled
during the cutting process to reduce friction and the possibility
of sparks. Prior to the final cut, the plate is to be supported
to prevent it from falling into the tank.
