1.00
2060 EAST MAIN STREET
PAGE 2
can be granted.
Because these tanks were abandonded in place prior to the
effective date of the underground storage tank regulations,
PHS/EHD will not require an investigation for a current closure
in place. However, if, at some later date, it is determined that
there has been a release from these tanks, an investigation to
determine the full extent of the contamination may be warranted.
In addition, hand augered soil borings, such as those installed
by Certified Environmental Corporation on October 11, 1993 at
your facility, are a permitted activity in San Joaquin County.
In this case, the contractor failed to obtain the necessary
permit from PHS/EHD for your investigation.
PHS/EHD requires a workplan to be submitted along with a permit
application for review for this type of work. If workplans do
not appear adequate in evaluating an underground storage tank for
closure purposes, PHS/EHD may make recommendations at that time.
In this case, PHS/EHD was not notified of the investigation and
therefore was not able to provide this type of oversight.
If you have any questions or would like further clarification of
this letter, please contact me at (209) 468-3441.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Linda Turkatte, Senior REHS Diane M. Hinson, REHS
Site Mitigation Unit Supervisor
