The tanks have capacities of 8,000 and 10,000
gallons.
An analysis of tank contents shows low concentrations of gasoline components.
These gasoline components present two collection system disposal concerns:
development of flammable conditions, and toxic effects at the treatment plant.
These concerns were investigated in reviewing the disposal of the tank contents.
The investigation into flammability indicates that the lower limits of
flammability are approached for the gasoline components in the water. Because
conditions are unknown in the collection system and vapors from the gasoline
components could be retained in the collection system, JMM recommends against
disposal to the collection system.
The concentration of the gasoline components in the water is below levels known
to be toxic to treatment plant processes. The disposal of the tank contents is
therefore not expected to have an adverse effect on the treatment system.
Because toxic effects are not expected from the tank contents, disposal directly
to the treatment plant headworks is a recommended alternative method of
disposal. This would require the transfer of the tank contents to a tank truck
