I appreciate the detailed explanation. Do you think this would require a
cold start of the monitoring system? Because we do require permits for those.
Thank you again for such a quick response.
----------------------------------------------------------
Kasey L. The pressure
sensor is installed just above the shear valve in the vapor return piping at the dispenser closest to the tank. It is wired
back to the TLS-350 and connects to a SmartSensor board just like any other sensor. If the technician is simply replacing
a defective pressure sensor, no TLS-350 re-wiring or programming should be needed. All the work would be at the vapor
shear valve in the closest dispenser. The pressure sensor is used only for the CARB-required ISD system, not our
regulated leak detection system. Given those facts, I don't think the CUPA needs to permit the activity. Of course, CUPAs
have the final say on what requires a permit within their jurisdiction. I've attached a copy of the Pressure Sensor
installation instructions so that you can understand the work being done and make your own determination. Let me know
if you need anything else.
Scott Bacon
State Water Resources Control Board
UST Program, Leak Prevention Technical Unit
1001 1 St. 15th Floor
Sacramento, CA 95814
Phone: (916)341-5873
Fax: (916)341-5808
1
