XERXES
CORPORATION
June 25, 2007
To: San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department
Attn: Muniappa Naidu E-mail: mnaidu@sjcehd.com
Re: Two 10-ft., 12,000 gallon, DWII double wall tanks
Tosco SS# 27-01205
16470 Cambridge
Lathrop, CA 95330
Dear Sir,
The tanks in question are identical and were originally sold to Tosco and were
delivered to the above site on November 12, 1997. The tanks were shipped with
a dry interstitial space and were not equipped with reservoirs to monitor brine
fluctuation. The 4" NPT Monitor Fittings shown as items A on the attached
drawing are designed for installing a dry monitoring system. Using this fitting as a
reservoir for monitoring the fluctuation of brine is not recommended because it is
not large enough. Xerxes double wall tanks are all designed for brine filling of the
interstitial space and if you can find a way to monitor the brine fluctuations in that
small of a space it does not pose a problem. The problem occurs when the brine
level is elevated into the piping above the tank causing additional head pressure,
which can lead to the rupture of the interior tank wall contaminating the fuel with
brine.
When converting a dry annular space to a brine filled space for a tank of this size
a 25" diameter reservoir is installed on one end of the tank centered over the end
rib.
If you have any questions or require any additional information, please contact
me at your convenience.
Regards,
Del Hinkle
Field Service Coordinator, ext. 228
1210 N.
