CONTAINMENT <br /> SOLUTIONS Engineering Report <br /> Pressurized Product Deliveries to <br /> CSI Underground Tanks <br /> William A. Schneider <br /> 05/12/11 <br /> CSI underground fiberglass reinforced plastic tanks must be <br /> vented at all times, except as allowed during pre-installation <br /> testing. They are designed for operation at atmospheric <br /> pressure only (except for use with vapor recovery systems <br /> provided the pressure or vacuum does not exceed 1 psig). The <br /> tank's venting system must be adequately sized to ensure that <br /> atmospheric pressure is maintained at all times, including when <br /> filling and emptying the tank. <br /> Fuel deliveries are typically done with gravity drops into tanks <br /> with overfill protection. The overfill protection should be <br /> designed to not allow the tank to be pressurized during the <br /> delivery. This is normally accomplished by including a device in <br /> the delivery piping or in the tank drop tube that closes when the <br /> fuel level reaches some height in the tank. For gravity drops, the <br /> point at which the device closes should be at 90 to 95% of the <br /> tank capacity. <br /> In some cases, fuel may be delivered with a pressurized delivery <br /> system. There are two methods that could be used. <br /> 1. Pressurizing the delivery tanker with air which then forces <br /> the fuel into the receiving tank. THIS METHOD SHOULD <br /> NEVER BE USED.
