TANK SFNT1iVEL° LIQUID LEVEL PROBE DESCRIPTION The INCON Model TSP-LL2 is an advanced family of liquid level probes designed for use with Tank Sentineh auto- matic tank gauges. They use magnetostrictive position measurement technology to report the level of either one or two floats. In addition, each probe is equipped with tem- perature sensors located at intervals along its shaft. The TSP-LL2 series of liquid level probes feature exceptional linearity, resolution, and stability, required to achieve the unparalleled performance which Tank Sentinel3 automatic tank gauges offer. THEORY OF OPERATION, Magnetostrictive sensing technology is the secret to the TSP-LL2 liquid level probe's accuracy and stability. A probe consists of a long shaft with one or two magnetic floats that move freely along it. A thin wire of very special material is k stretched down the center of this probe shaft. When a measurement is made, a magnetic field is electrically cre- ated around the wave guide for an instant. The wave guide is twisted where that field interacts with the permanent magnet field from one of the floats. This twisting results is a shock wave that travels up the wave guide to the head of the probe where tiny sensors detect its arrival. Because the shock wave travels at a known speed,the time between the creation of the electrically generated field and the arrival of the shock wave is an accurate measure of the float's position. APPLICATION Standard TSP-LL2 probes are equipped for use in under- ground petroleum storage tanks and are available in sizes suitable for all common tanks. In most cases you may use the next larger size standard probe in non-standard sized tanks. Installation in a 4 inch riser pipe takes only a few minutes. To make certain that your probe operates reliably for many years to come,INCON recommends the use of the TSP-K4A probe installation kit.
