Currently, the
site is being divested by ARCO. The site will no longer be operated as a gasoline service station. The
site is bound by Kettleman Lane to the south and Hutchins Street to the east. As part of the divestment
activities, all USTs, dispensers, and associated piping were removed from the site. The piping and
dispensers were removed on August 15, 2002, and the USTs were excavated and removed on October
22, 2002. In December 2002, associated piping was removed from the site.
UST REMOVAL ACTIVITES
Excavation and removal of the USTs, dispensers and piping was performed by K.E. Curtis Construction
Company of Lathrop, California, from August 15, 2002 through October 22, 2002. The excavated USTs
consisted of one split(10,000-gallon and 12,000-gallon capacity) fiberglass UST and one 20,000-gallon
fiberglass UST. The excavated USTs appeared to be in good condition, with no apparent holes or
cracks visually noted during removal. UST removal permits are presented included as Attachment A.
Excavated soil was field-screened with a photoionization detector (PID) to determine if impacted soil
was present. No impacted soil was observed or indicated by the PID during the excavation and removal
activities. The removed USTs and piping were transported to Norcal Waste Systems Pacheco Pass
Landfill in Gilroy, California, for proper disposal. UST and piping disposal documentation are
presented in Attachment B. Excavation and sampling activities were observed and approved by Mr.
Dennis Catanyag of the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department(SJCEHD).
URS Corporation
Crown Corporate Center
2870 Gateway Oaks Drive, Suite 300
Sacramento,CA 95833
Tel:916.679.2000
Fax:916.679.2900 K:U5 BP ARC0\00434\Quarterly\UST Removal\00434 UST Removal 2nd report.doc
