Newark Sierra Paperboard Corp. ,., I Cr THE
800 West Church Street } A Newark Group,Inc.Company PERMIT ICM LTN GROUP
Stockton,CA 95203 Products from Recycled Fibers
Fa9209,9421
Fa93 JUN - I PM 2: 45
x 209/942-1214
May 28 , 1993
Pamela S. Violett
San Joaquin County
Public Health Services
P.O. Box 2009
Stockton, CA 95201
Dear Pam:
A decision has been made to remove the underground "day
tanks" and to install a single smaller aboveground within the
building. we understand that a permit will be required from
your office for such a closure. We are already committed to
burning approximately 7, 000 barrels of oil in June, but do
not intend to burn any further oil utilizing these tanks
thereafter. I will try to get in touch with you next
Thursday or Friday morning to discuss our timetable and
verify the steps that are required.
We have contracted with FGL Laboratories to do the quarterly
testing of our monitoring wells around the large oil tank.
These wells will be sampled in June. Do you want the results
sent to you on a quarterly basis or only if contamination is
detected?
I have had a great deal of difficulty getting in touch with
the proper person at the State Regional Water Quality Control
Board to give me a ruling on whether or not they agree that
we do have a variance for the large tank. Tom Peltier is in
another division now, Gary Reentz, his predecessor, now works
for the City of Sacramento and Pat Leary, who handles our
NPDES permit now, finally gave me Beth Thayer's name and
number. Although I could never catch her in her office and
she never did return any of my calls, this morning she
finally personally answered her phone. She said that she
would review her file and get back to me shortly. I will let
you know as soon as I hear from her.
Sincerely,
Mice. R
