Tank level gauging probe is accurate to +/- 0.001 inch, for <br /> our fuel oil reservoir that is = +/- 0.057 bbl, however due to <br /> the high viscosity of the oil, stiction along the guide tube <br /> would probably only allow +/- 0.01 inch accuracy, which <br /> corresponds to a maximum error = +/- 0.57 bbl <br /> 3 . Taylor Integral wedge fuel oil meters (best available at time <br /> of purchase) have an accuracy of +/- 0.5% and a repeatability <br /> of +/-0. 2%. Assuming there were some way to field calibrate <br /> to take advantage of the better repeatability values, the <br /> maximum error = +/- 1. 20 bbl <br /> 4 . The above fuel oil metering would be the measure of fuel oil <br /> going into and out of the courtyard fuel oil tanks. I do not <br /> yet have a value for the accuracy of tank level gauging in the <br /> courtyard tanks. <br /> Additional variables that affect the accuracy of leak <br /> detection include: thermal gradients within the fuel oil reservoir, <br /> and the fact that the fuel oil reservoir does not sit perfectly <br /> level, it tilts slightly downward toward the east. <br /> Note The fuel oil reservoir has a capacity . of 220,000 gallons. <br /> The equipment listed by the vendors that provide underground <br /> storage tank leak detection is intended for tanks only up to 15,000 <br /> gallons. No claims for sufficient accuracy to meet the <br /> requirements are made for tanks much larger than 15,000 gallons, <br /> let alone a tank of 220,000 gallons. <br />
