CONCLUSION
Laboratory analyses of soil samples collected beneath the No. 6 fuel pipeline indicate that
fuel leakage has occurred along one section of the pipeline.
Laboratory analyses of soil samples collected adjacent to and beneath the courtyard No. 6
fuel tanks and sump indicate that fuel leakage has occurred.
Given the viscosity of No. 6 fuel oil, which at a temperature of 122° Fahrenheit is 97.4 to
660 centistokes, it is unlikely that groundwater would be affected by a release. It is also
unlikely that the lateral spread of No. 6 fuel constituents through the soil profile would be
appreciable.
The total amount of product released from the pipeline, sump and tanks is unknown.
Excavation operations should reveal the extent of hydrocarbon release.
ansp n( ,as) Page 17
