end caps taped with silver duct tape, labeled, and placed in an ice chest containing dry ice
and kept frozen for transport to the analytical laboratory for chemical analyses.
All samples collected will be labeled with the sample identifier, location, sampler's name,
time and date of sample collection, and analyses requested using a black indelible marking
pen. All samples collected will be recorded on a Sample Management/Chain of Custody
form which will track the sample from time of collection to delivery at the analytical
laboratory. Appendix F presents the proposed sample label and Sample
Management/Chain of Custody form that will be utilized.
Prior to and following each subsequent soil sampling event, all downhole sampling
equipment will be cleaned. Cleaning will consist of removing solid material from the
sampling equipment using clear water and a plastic bristle brush, washing the sampling
equipment in a mixture of clear water and Liquinox or Alconox, rinsing the sampling
equipment in clear water, rinsing with deionized water, and allowed to air dry.
Accumulated washwaters will be combined with the accumulated rinsate generated by
borehole drilling equipment cleaning. All boreholes upon completion will be filled with a
cement slurry mix. Borehole filling will be done in the presence of a representative of the
SJLHD.
Soil samples will be analyzed for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH) and grease.
Table 2 presents the analytical protocol.
TABLE 2
ANALYTICAL PROTOCOL
Analytical
Constituent Container Preservation Method
TPH Brass liner Frozen EPA 8015 (modified)
Oil & Grease Brass liner Frozen EPA 418.1
rl8ol0](ms) Page 5
