Although three wells are required in the regulations, access near
the tanks limits the feasible number of wells to two. Consid—
ering that the tanks are only about 15 feet in the longest
dimension , this should not affect the effectiveness of
monitoring .
Monitoring wells 3 and 4 are intended to monitor the 5,500 barrel
tank. One well will be placed upgradient and the other down—
gradient to meet Title 23 requirements.
All wells will be installed using hollow—stem auger with con—
tinuous coring for logging and sampling. All wells will be two
inch diameter PVC with factory slotted screens , sand filter
packs, bentonite/grout seals , and below grade completions (see
Attachment 4, Monitoring Well Design). Wells will be developed
by surging and pumping.
Monitoring Procedures
On a monthly basis , as long as the tanks are in service, the
following procedures will be implemented for each well:
1 . Water levels will be determined by sounding each well.
Water depths will be recorded to the nearest tenth of
a foot. A proposed data sheet is included as
Attachment 5.
5
